Detached house. c1903 by Ernest Gimson, partially destroyed by
fire in 1941 and rebuilt to slightly different design. Rubble
stone with originally a thick thatch roof and eyebrow dormers,
replaced after 1941 with Cotswold stone-slate roof and gabled
dormers. One very large lateral stack on south west side (with
small gabled porch at base) with stepped off-sets, and one tall
single flue on opposite side of wing with random dove perches. 2
stacks to main range. L-plan, 2 storeys. North west side has 2
gabled dormers cutting eaves, and below a new glazed-in loggia with
the circular stone pillars still surviving that originally formed a
drying area for timber. Curved lobby area in angle of L, leads to
north west gable with leaded casements, 3-light above 4-light, with
wide flat stone-mullions, large lintels, quoins and aprons. South
east front has 2 eaves dormers.
Interior: after the fire ceiling level on ground floor was lowered
and the book shelves running along the top of the living room wall
have gone. Some original doors, and fireplace in main room, but
all upstairs fireplaces now blocked.
