7/224 Stables at The Vicarage

GV II


Stable block. Late C18, possibly contemporary with latest wing of
the Vicarage (q.v.) of 1771. Random coursed rubble stone with
quoins and central ashlar gable, string band at cornice level,
hipped slate roof. Single range with large central coped gable
slightly projecting, with keyed oculus and round-headed carriage
arch, with metal Sun Assurance plaque (no. 402649) directly above
voussoirs, and shaped double timber doors probably of C20. To each
side round-headed arches with even voussoirs, with semi-circular
fanlight with 2 mullions and plain timber door. Rubble stone at
rear as part of perimeter wall with 2 square openings with wooden
shutters under eaves.
Interior still has loose boxes. Weathervane on top of gable.
Cobbled forecourt.
