5/66 Barn at South Farm, to south-east
of South Farmhouse, and attached
stable

GV II

Very large barn. Late C18. Random coursed rubble stone with
alternating flush quoins, stone slate roof to west, slate to east.
Two large projecting gabled cart entries towards south on west
side. That nearer centre restored with new timber lintel, and
relieving arch and dovecot over. Two-bay lean-to to left with
single tapering column between bays of former animal shelter now
filled in, and low double width entry to left of lean-to with
timber lintel. Additional similar lean-to between cart entries.
Cart entry nearer west end now blocked, also with relieving arch
and with square vent over. Additional small lean-to to right.
Central 2-bay lean-to partially obscured by single-storey stable
block probably of early C19 with 3 stable doors and 4 hopper
lights, and mounting block opposite in yard. Barn has collar and
tie beam trusses but several internal partition walls, interior
only partially accessible.
