SU 19 NW KEMPSFORD DUNFIELD

Former farmhouse, large detached house. Probably late C17/early
C18, with earlier small wing to rear, possibly mid-late C17.
Coursed rubble stone with alternating flush quoins, stone slate
roof with stone stacks with offsets. Double range of 2 storeys and
attic, with small 2-storey linking unit to earlier wing of single
storey and attic, possibly original farmhouse on site. Main front
to west has 3 windows, 3-light stone mullions in plain stone
frames. Right-hand end has been added probably in C19 with quoins
instead of plain frame. Ground floor has two 3-light stone
mullions and originally central door between with C19 gabled porch
with chamfered depressed stone arch and keystone in front of
original door frame with square chamfered arch. Inner C19 door
only. 3-light stone mullion and transom on far right in C19
addition which projects beyond rear range. 2 small gabled dormers
with paired wooden casements.
Interior retains several chamfered and stopped beams and large
stone bressumer fireplace in front range. Small wing to rear has
4-light stone mullion and single dormer to north side. Interior
has large corner fireplace in ground floor (one room only) with oak
bressumer, and chamfered and stopped Tudor arch fireplace above.
