SU 29 NW LECHLADE -

9/121 The Round House

GV II

Small circular building, probably former canal and lock-keeper's
house at junction of Thames and Severn Canal with River Thames.
Late C18, probably 1780s or 1790s. Roughcast on rubble with small
brick stack, roof not visible. Three storeys and tall parapet
wall. Flight of 7 stone steps up on west side to upper ground floor
with pointed arch doorway with stone surround, plain boarded door
and plain pointed arch fanlight. Small pointed arch single light
to right of door on each upper floor, and also to rear, all with
plain stone surrounds and leaded casements. Stone plat bands
between floors. Ground floor on south east side has large stone
framed doorway with keystone, and fully glazed door. Rear lean-to,
possibly of C20.
