2/67 Former brewhouse,
The Old Brewery
GV II

Former brewery. Late C17-early C18 and C19. Coursed squared and
dressed limestone, red tile and concrete tile roofing. Tall brick
stack with coloured brick and sawtooth decoration at top.
Rectangular block with brewhouse left of storehouse. Late C17-
early C18. Storehouse lit by two 2-light flat-chamfered stone-
mullioned casements on north, two sliding garage doors right,
narrow band between ground and first floors. C19 brewhouse with
axis at right angles to storehouse, left; 2½ storeys (probably
raised in height during C19). Double doors to ground floor, 2-
light casement and pitching window with shutter to second floor.
Plank door to upper floor with remains of hoist over. Former
malthouse lies immediately west (q.v. The Old Brewery).
Interior; incomplete remains of former boiler where malt, hops,
yeast and water were heated in wall opposite entrance to brewhouse.
Brewhouse chimney forms a prominent feature within the landscape.
