SP 02 SW SEVENHAMPTON LOWER SEVENHAMPTON

2/72 Hillview
II

Former row of three cottages now one. C17-early C18, mid C18 and
C20. Coursed squared and dressed limestone, most finely dressed
stone at right-hand end. Stone slate and concrete tiles, thatch
and slate roofing. Brick and artificial stone stacks. Rectangular
plan. C20 lean-to at right gable end not of special interest. Mid
C18 cottage at left end with facade rebuilt in C19; 2 storeys, 2-
windowed, all C20 steel casements with horizontal glazing bars at
front, one single and one 2-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned
window at rear., Two flat-chamfered 'Tudor'-arched doorways with
plank doors far left and far right. Thatched part at centre of
row; 1½ storeys with 2 eyebrow dormers to upper floor. C20 part-
glazed door lower left. Blocked doorway with window inserted
right. Right-hand end with stone slate roof; raking dormer to
first floor. All windows 2, 3 and 4-light casements with
horizontal glazing bars. Stacks at gable ends of part with stone
slate roof. Flat gable end coping at right gable end. Axial stack
to mid C18 part. Thatched element forms a rare survival of a form
of roofing material once common on low status buildings and
agricultural buildings in the area.
Interior not inspected.
