2/126 Village water trough and gabled
back drop and flanking wall
GV II

Village water trough. Late C19. Rock-faced and dressed
limestone. Rectangular water trough in front of gabled back-drop,
placed centrally within wall c12m in length. Trough with gabled
back-drop, pointed arched recess with flat-chamfered moulded
surround with ballflower decoration. Eroded remains of possible
former standing for statue within recess. Inscription 'Waste Not,
Want Not' towards apex of gable. Stepped coping to gable, roll-
cross saddle with fleur-de-lys and metal cross at apex. Foliate
stops at bottom of coping. Wall either side stepped up towards
gable.
