GV II
Large detached house. Originally late C17, altered and much
enlarged in mid C19. Coursed or random coursed rubble stone with
quoins, scattered diagonally set ashlar flues with moulded
cornices. Double range with 2 cross gabled wings and long rear
north range projecting to east and west of double range. Mostly 2
storeys and attic. East side probably oldest section with 2 coped
gables with ball finials, scattered stone mullion and transoms,
with continuous hoodmoulds on first and ground floors, 2-light on
first floor, 4-light on ground floor. All fenestration with
decorative lozenge-shaped leading probably of later C19. South
side has 2 double-canted 2-storey bays, one to each gable. North
wing has 2 and 3-light stone mullions with square hoodmould
towards east on south side and elaborate projecting crowstepped
gable with flat top at east end with diagonal stepped buttresses,
4-light stone mullion and transom on first floor and ground floor
entrance with moulded archway now blocked and with inserted 2-light
stone mullion. Three half-elliptical stone steps up remain. West
end of north wing has small 3-light oriel on south side with small
2-light gabled dormer with kneelers above. Stone stack immediately
to right of oriel has large paired cylindrical flues with offset.
Corner porch in north-west angle.
