SP 11 SE
5/12 Stableblock c40m south of
Manor Farmhouse
(formerly listed as one of
23.1.52 two barns with Manor Farmhouse)
Stableblock. Late C17 (probably built at the same time as Manor
Farmhouse (q.v.). Coursed squared and dressed limestone with large
quoins. Stone slate roof. Rectangular plan with a small single
storey extension to rear. Two storeys. Flat chamfered plinth.
Two sengmental-headed entrances with raised surrounds with tall
keystones. Three double-chamfered 2-light stone-mullioned
casements one at first floor level. Pitching window off-centre
right (possibly formerly a doorway). Two courses of pigeon holes
below the eaves. Large circular ventilation hole in the south
gable end with a square dressed stone surround. Single ventilation
slit above.
Interior; Probably 4 bays, divided into hay store and stable with
hay loft over. Slot in floor of hay loft for pitching hay down to
stabling below. Original collar and tie beam roof trusses. This
building together with the barn opposite (q.v.) appears to have
been sited in such a way so that when viewed from the south with
the barn/cartstore (q.v.) it 'frames' the facade of Manor
Farmhouse. Roof in state of disrepair at time of resurvey, June
1986. (Barrington Park Estate).
