George Bayliss and Thomas Kendall chest tombs and 7 headstones
along the margin of the churchyard path. Row of 7 headstones.
Early-mid C18. Limestone.
a) Headstone at left end of row with oval inscription plaque with
a raised foliate margin, marginal panels with raised scrolls
with single carved heads at the top of each inscription.
Triangular pediment containing a winged angel's head.
b) Headstone with no legible inscription. Deeply carved winged
angel's head at top. Ribbon tie with flowers below single
scrolls either side of inscription panel. The carving is all
of an unusual almost geometric nature.
c) Headstone to Thomas Simon, died 1706. Sunken inscription plaque
with a wide margin with foliate decoration. Double scroll at
the top flanking an angel's head. Loop of fruit and flowers
below.
d) Simple headstone with a partially legible inscription within a
rectangular panel including the date 1703. Eroded angel's head
at the top.
e) Headstone with an eroded inscription. Small winged angel's
head at top flanked by double scroll. Marginal panels with
fruit hanging from ribbon ties.
f) Headstonewith cartouche-like surround around its now illegible
inscription. Eroded pair of winged angels' heads at the top.
Two C19 headstones (one lying flat) not of special interest.
g) Headstone dated 1734 with a deeply carved cartouche-like
surround to the inscription plaque. Winged angel's head at
top.
h) Chest tomb to George Bayliss, died 1818, immediately behind the
row. Fielded inscription plaque on the north side. Capping
with moulded margin and stepped upper capping.
i) Chest tomb to Thomas Kendall. Late C18-early C19. Limestone.
Moulded plinth. Inscription to Thomas Kendall at the end,
further inscriptions on the north and south sides now obscured
by foliage. Capping with moulded margin and hipped upper
capping.
