One of two adjoining cottages. Mid-late C17, extended C18 restored
early C20 as indicated by a stone inscription plaque, dated and
initialled 'A.W.B./1923' on the south-east facing gable. Random
roughly squared limestone with dressed stone quoins formerly
painted cream. Former ashlar stacks now replaced in brick; stone
slate roof. C17 range parallel to road with later extension at
right angles rear right. C17 range: 1 1/2 storeys. Extension; 2
storeys and attic. Entrance front of the C17 range: two 3-light
double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements to the ground floor,
continuous dripmould over the right-hand window; 2-light flat-
chamfered stone-mullioned casement with gablet upper right. C20
plank door with fillets within a rebuilt surround (probably not the
original position of the door) between the two ground floor
windows. Two and 3-light stone-mullioned casements to both gable
ends. Single-light wooden casement and 3-light half-dormer to the
first floor. Early C18 two-panel door with strap hinges with fleur
de lys terminals, at the rear within an early-mid C19 wrought iron
porch with a curved and hipped canopy. C18 extension is lit by
single-light, 2, 3 and 4-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned
casements some with stopped hoods. Single 3-light late C19-early
C20 roof dormer. The casements to both ranges have early
fastenings. Curving cast iron railing with fleur de lys finials on
a low ashlar wall running parallel to the roadside front of the
C17 range (now largely obscured by a hedge). The railing may have
been made at the smithy nearby. Incomplete interior inspection
revealed no features of special interest.
