11/62 The Old Vicarage
II
Former vicarage, now house. Late C18-early C19 possibly on the
site of an earlier house with mid C19 extension (in the style of
Belcher). Thinly-bedded limestone with dressed stone quoins;
stone slate roof with ashlar stacks. Two parallel rectangular
ranges to main body with C19 extension and entrance turret at right
angles at rear. Main body: 2 storeys, attic and cellar. C19
extension: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-windowed garden front to
main body: 12-pane sashes within plain dressed stone architraves
and lintels band between floors. Central part-glazed door up 3
stone steps within an open-sided flat-roofed porch with Doric
columns and an entablature. C19 canted bay to the right gable end
incorporating a 2-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned casement
(now blocked) formerly lighting the cellar; 2-light ovolo-moulded
stone-mullioned casements (probably re-used) to the attics at both
gable ends; all other windows lighting to gable ends and at the
rear sashes with glazing bars some with plain architraves. C19
extension: single 8-pane sashes, twin 8-pane sashes and 12-pane
sashes all with dressed stone surrounds. Access via C19 round-
headed plank door to entrance turret with a dressed stone surround
with an elongated keystone; twin scrolls either side of the
keystone; plain frieze above with twin banded ball finials.
