Description

DAGLINGWORTH -
SO 90 NE
5/154 Former Granary Lightend Barn

II

Former granary. Mid-late C19, extended at a later date. Random
roughly squared limestone; red tile roof. The plan comprises
three parallel ranges of differing length. Range facing south
east: 3 storeys; other ranges 2 storeys. South east elevation;
two stable doors to the ground floor; two openings with slats at
front divided by a single stone column far right; large sliding
door above; two 2-light metal casements with glazing bars to the
first floor; 3 similar casements to the second floor. Two
ventilation slits to the central range (where it projects beyond
the right gable end of the former); later extension to the right
with three round-headed archways projecting just above ground level
(2 now blocked); pitching window above. Double-width entrances to
the gable ends of the range to the rear presumably providing a
sheltered access to the granary for wagons. Original collar and
tie-beams, one with a scratched counting tally to the central
range; grain bins formerly with sliding panels at the front on the
same floor.
