Large house dated 1931 on rainwater heads, by Norman Jewson for I.
Naylor. Random roughly squared limestone; ashlar stacks; stone
slate roof. 'L'-shaped plan; 'E' to garden. Two storeys and
attic. Entrance (east) front: central 2-storey gabled porch,
further gabled projection far right. Two, 3 and 4-light stone-
mullioned casements mostly with moulded hoods; stone-mullioned
cross window lighting the service stairs immediately left of the
projecting gable. Plank door within a flat-chamfered flattened
Tudor arched surround with a deep dressed stone lintel and a
moulded hood; ventilation slit to the porch gable. Almost
symmetrical south (garden) front with gables projecting forwards
far left and far right; central flat-roofed canted bay; mostly 2
and 4-light stone-mullioned casements with transoms to the ground
floor; 2 and 4-light stone-mullioned casements to the first floor;
single-light windows with moulded hoods to each gable. All
casements with leaded panes. Axial stacks.
Interior: staircase with a square-framed balustrade and moulded
handrail (typical of Jewson's interior work). Drawing room: high
open-beamed ceiling; bolection-moulded fireplace; two 6-panel
doors, with brass fixtures (reputed to come from Leeds Castle).
Dining room: angled corner fireplace with fireback initialled
'I.N.'. Service stair appears to be based on a Voysey design with
floor to ceiling stick balusters. Design of house probably
influenced by Rodmarton Manor (q.v. Rodmarton C.P.).
