Nos 41, 43 and 45


Three dwellings in row. C17. Rubble, pointed on road frontage, return wing, right,
rendered, stone slate roof, front. Long block with very steep roof pitch, brick
stacks to gables and principal stack to ridge one bay in from right gable. Two
storeys plus attic, 3+2-windowed: left half C19 casements, 3 light at first floor,
one 3-light and two 2-light, ground floor. Right half, 3-light wood casement with
transome at first floor, blocked doorway and modern casement, ground floor. Late C20
glazed door in plain heavy wood surround to right of windows in left half, blocked
door opening in right half, adjacent. Return wing, right, two storeys, 1-windowed,
sashes without bars, and modern door in re-entrant angle; three storeys to gable to
road. Small C19 2-light casements back.

Interior: Large open fireplace with stone cheeks and heavy wood bressumer near
re-entrant in block; various heavy moulded and stopped beams, substantial collar and
tie roof structure. This property probably built in three stages; reputed to have
been Workhouse during C19.
