Mill House

II

Saw mill, now dwelling. C17. Squared rubble, stone slate roof. L-plan, with gable
stack on return wing right, and off-centre, right in principal wing; this stack
probably originally external, but two later extensions. Entrance elevation two
storeys, 2+2+2 windowed all cross-mullioned casements, two nearest internal angle at
first floor with leaded glazing, and two ground floor far left with flat segmental
heads. Modern plank door in simple frame immediately to left of stack. Return wing,
flatter pitch to roof, two storeys, 3-windows at first floor, 3, 3, and 2-light
casements; deep set modern door off-centre, left. Two modern casements on main gable
to south, and various new casements on west front.

Interior: newel stair by fireplace. Fine cast and wrought iron plus wood wheel, c4 m
diameter, in situ to right of return gable.

This was Dauncey's Mill, originally of 1689 for Timothy Gyde; it was a fulling mill,
later saw mill. (Jennifer Tann, GLOUCESTERSHIRE WOOLLEN MILLS, 1967).

Although much modified internally, this remains of special interest both for its
architecture and for its historical interest.
