4/24 Ellis monument in the churchyard
approximately 1.5m south of
Church of St. John

GV II

Chest tomb. Dated 1740. Limestone. Gadrooned balusters to
corners; very elaborate cartouche to ends; south side has swag
inscription panel with 2 cherub's heads over; flanking panels
topped by ribbon bows, left having open book and floral drop, right
having hour-glass with serpent of eternity and cross-bones below.
Plain moulded inscription panel on north side flanked by floral
drops. Cyma moulded top and base. Inscribed on south side to
Joseph Ellis, died 1740.
