Large detached farmhouse. Late C17; C19 wing. Random rubble
limestone; ashlar chimneys; clay plain tile roof. Two storey with
attic; 2-storey with attic wing to form L-plan; further single-
storey back wing in angle. North front: gable to right with
indications of change in roof pitch; single-window fenestration to
upper floors, each 2-light chamfered mullioned casement with hood
mould; 2 tall ground floor casements are C19; C20 plaque to right
reads: 'Brook Farm/SYLVANUS LYSONS CHARITY/ 1750 - 1982'; wing to
left has tall ground floor casement and small casement in louvred
attic dormer. West side: C19 single-storey service wing projects
to right with moulded gable end C20 chimney; scattered and altered
fenestration to left in main range; 3-window to upper floor having
central single-light and 2 flanking 2-light casements with hood
moulds; C20 open lean-to below; 2 C19 gabled roof dormers with
barge boards to right; tall ridge mounted chimney with moulded cap.
South end: blank gable end apart from tall off-centre ground floor
casement; paired ridge mounted chimneys with moulded cap. East
side: Cl9 wing projects to right with single-window 2-light
fenestration in gable end; small casement in louvred attic dormer
on south side; 3-light casement to back of main range with 2-light
over; curved projecting passage to right gives access to single-
storey service room.
Interior not inspected. Until recently a possession of the
Sylvanus Lysons Charity.
