13/14 The King's Head
GV II
Public house. c1820. Flemish bond red brick (painted); coursed
rubble limestone; brick chimneys; plain tile and Welsh slate
roofs. Two-storey with attic; 2-storey out-building attached at
east end. Front: 4-window 16-pane sash fenestration with gauged
brick flat arches; late C20 shutters. Off-centre round-arched
doorway with C20 plank door and glazing. Four small-paned gabled
roof dormers. Stone quoins to front corners of elevation. Brick
chimneys to rubble gable ends, east end having off-centre attic
casement with timber lintel. C20 altered rear wing at west end.
C20 doors and windows inserted in outbuilding at east end, probably
formerly stables. Various C20 additions to rear not of special
interest. An inn has been recorded on this site since 1766. Has
important position at road junction in village.
