10/24 Power loom shed at Stanley Mills
to north west of main building

GV II

Former power loom shed. 1854, for S.S. Marling. Ashlar limestone
piers, brick infill. Flat roof not visible for inspection. South
part in coursed rubble with blue brick arches. Four-storey,
adjoining west end of main building (q.v.). Side: 10 bays divided
by stone piers. Windows of weaver's type (tall vertical panes),
square-headed to top and bottom floors, segmental-arched to middle
2 floors. Three-window fenestraton to east side of stone-built
range with blue brick segmental-arched heads and small-paned
casements. Main part stands on bridge of 4 keyed stone arches
spanning River Frome. North end formerly with parapet gable,
dismantled in C20 alteration to flat roof. Interior not inspected.
Built to provide accommodation for first power weaving looms at
mill.
