4/38 The Lodge

GV II

Former lodge, now small detached house. c1850, for S.S. Marling.
Ashlar limestone; ashlar chimneys; stone slate roof. Picturesque
composition. Single-storey; irregular plan. South front:
parapet-gabled end to right having kneelers with trefoils in small
gabled projections. Central projecting parapet-gabled porch with
Tudor-arched opening. Chamfered slit windows to left and right
with blank slit centrally to gable. Latticed 2-light mullioned
casement to left with hoodmould. Two ridge-mounted chimneys, one
with 3, other with 2 octagonal moulded shafts. West: parapet
gable to right with 3-light triangular-headed window having
hoodmould with lozenge stops. East: parapet-gabled end to left
with canted bay window; two 2-light casements to right. Iron lamp
post to south (q.v.) at opposite side of entrance.
