SO 70 SE LEONARD STANLEY BEARD'S MILL

3/58 Splash Cottage

GV II

Former mill manager's house, now house attached to Leonard Stanley
House, (q.v.). Late C18. Coursed rubble limestone, brick
additions; ashlar chimneys; stone slate roof, pantile to
outbuilding. Two-storey, double pile plan. Front: 2-window
fenestration, flat mullioned 3-light to right, 2-light left over
doorway with stone lintel and 8-panel door. Central upper floor
circular light has been inserted. North side: 2 gables, each
with gable-mounted chimney, left in ashlar with moulded cap, right
rebuilt in artificial stone. Two-storey brick addition to left
gable with small Gothic casement to upper floor on east side with
doorway below having timber lintel and plank door. Brick
outbuilding attached to right gable spans mill leat on stone
segmental arches: Gothic window with intersecting glazing bars,
C20 glazed doors to right. Rear: fenestration as front. Central
doorway blocked with timber casement. Large Gothic iron casement
to outbuilding and 2 smaller C20 Gothic casements. Forms part of
group with Leonard Stanley House and mill workshop (q.v.).
