3/80 Barn at Downton Farm

Detached barn. Early C18: C20 alterations. Coursed rubble
limestone; brick and concrete block outshuts; stone slate roof,
pantile and corrugated iron to outshuts. Five-bay barn with
projecting porches on north west and south east sides. South east
side: central gabled porch with timber lintel and plank doors;
render to gable with C20 casement; gabled lantern to columbarium
with horizontal openings. Open-fronted lean-to to right with 2
segmental-arched openings behind, both with plank doors. Concrete
block built cow byre to left; 2 segmental-arched metal casements
to barn. North east end: coursed rubble with small casement.
South west end: various attached timber buildings are not of
special interest. North west side: porch projects well forward
with plank barn doors; weatherboarding to gable. Lean-to on
either side of porch.
Interior: 5-bay collar and tie beam truss roof; 2-bay north west
porch with loft.
