28.6.60 (No 60)

Formerly detached house, now row of 2 houses with shop. Late C16;
1904 addition (No 62) and late C19 shop (No 58). Coursed rubble
limestone with roughcast render on front elevation; red brick;
brick and ashlar limestone chimneys; stone slate roof, some plain
tile to rear of No 62. Originally L-plan house, 2-storey with
attic; shop added at east end of return wing; house added at
north end. Front: No 60 at centre has 2-window fenestration and
central doorway with C20 door and gabled timber porch. Recessed
cavetto mullioned casements to left, 2+2-light to ground floor with
4-light above; cavetto mullioned casements right appear later, 3-
light to each floor. Single-window 4-light recessed cavetto
casement fenestration to No 62. Brick chimney at mid roof pitch
indicates original end of No 60. Altered late C19 shop to left is
built back into the return wing, the former jettied gable end of
which is shown in early illustration. North end: single sash
window to each floor; 2 attic single-lights. Brick gable-mounted
chimney with datestone 'J H H/1904' set immediately below.
Smaller gable end to right of parallel-roofed block to rear.
Rear: projecting gabled wing to No 60 with chimney to right.
Ground floor 2-light casement to right of chimney, 3-light above.
Roughcast to C20 addition to left. (Illustrated in J.H.A.
