(west side), South Woochester

18/204 Atcombe Cottage, Barley Acre,
Peppercorns and No 6

GV II

Row of 4 houses. Mid C18; alterations and additions of late C18
and early C19. Random and coursed rubble limestone; ashlar
limestone and brick chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey with
attic. Front: generally random rubble to lower part of walls
with evidence of raising of eaves in later coursed rubble.
Chamfered mullioned ground floor casements with hoodmoulds to
Barley Acre. Restored mullioned fenestration to ground floor of
Peppercorns. Fenestration otherwise casements with timber
lintels, with additional attic casement to Barley Acre below eaves.
Two eaves-mounted gabled roof dormers to each house except single
dormer to No 6; leaded iron dormer casements to Barley Acre.
Rear: 2-storey outshut to Atcombe Cottage. Various C20
alterations to Barley Acre in artificial stone. Rendered 2-storey
outshut to No 6. Interiors not inspected. A relatively
unaltered and early example of a row of weaver's houses.
