Formerly large mill owner's house, now 3 houses. Mid C17; large
addition dated 1698; mid C19 coach house wing. Random and
coursed rubble limestone, mostly roughcast or smooth rendered;
ashlar and brick chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey with
attic; 1698 addition forms L-plan. South front: 4 gables,
generally single-window fenestration to each, cross windows to
ground and upper floors under continuous hoodmoulds; 2-light
chamfered mullioned attic casements with hoodmoulds in gables.
Chamfered doorway to Summerwells House to left with 4-panel door;
C19 doorway projects forward with coped top to Ten Bells House.
Tall chimney with moulded cap to right gable; mixed ashlar and
brick ridge-mounted chimneys. Screen wall extends elevation to
left linking with Summerwells which is not of special interest.
East side: 2 outer gables with single-window fenestration below;
cross windows to left. Three-light ovolo moulded mullioned
casements to centre with hoodmoulds linking with ground floor 3+3-
light, and upper floor 2+2-light to right, both also ovolo moulded.
Ovolo moulded 2-light attic casements with hoodmoulds in gables.
North: gable end of return wing (earlier house) to left with long
gabled range of addition set back to right. Three gables to long
range with continuous drip moulds above ground and upper floor 2-
light chamfered mullioned casements; 2-light casements to attic
gables. Central gable has rectangular datestone: 'I E K / 1698'.
C19 stable and coach house projects forward to right with iron
casements and deep stone lintels. Interiors not inspected.
