Hunting lodge or plaisance. c1720 for Lord Ducie. Hard grey ashlar limestone;
flat roof not inspected. Simple rectangular plan; 2-storey with cellar in base.
Heavily battered base in roughly hewn large random rubble. Simple elevations
above: 2-window fenestration to east and west sides, single-window to north
and south, all with triple keystones to plain raised architraves. South end
windows and southerly side windows are early C18 sashes with thick ovolo glazing
bars, 15-pane to ground floor, 9-pane above. Cross windows to other ground
floor openings, 2-light mullioned casements to upper floor. Large doorway on
north side partially infilled with later doorway having small gabled porch
addition. Plain corner pilasters. Parapet formerly crenellated, removed on
all sides except for north. Central square turret with chimney to roof.
Interior: divided in half to create 2 good-sized rooms on ground floor, south
having stone fireplace with eared architraves. Much early Victorian re-fitting.
Stands on the ridge, overlooking Woodchester Park.
