Probably coach house or stables to Stanley House (qv). Circa early to mid
C19. Limestone with ashlar front range. Gable-ended back range with
concrete tile roof; front range has flat roof behind parapet. 2 parallel
ranges; the back range probably the coach house or stables; the Gothic
style front range has rooms on either side of a pair of central
carriageways (both now blocked). 2 storey front range with parapet with
cornice 3:1:2:1:3 bay front. To left and right 2 storey canted bays;
centre breaks forward with 2 tall pointed arch carriageways (blocked) with
imposts and doorways either side with C20 glazed doors. The windows have
2-centred gothic arches with stone Y-tracery and casements; rectangular
central window over the carriageways. The back range has rectangular
windows with C20 casements and C20 extensions. Interior: Some C19
joinery in front; back range used as engineering workshop. Note: Stanley
House was the home of the owner of the adjacent Stanley Mills (qv) and it
may have had some use in connection with the mill. The present occupant
suggests it was a coaching station.
