Church End House and stable
adjoining on north west corner
Detached house and stables linked by archway, currently part of
Tanhouse Farm complex. Late C18, built by Barnard family, owners
of local brickworks. Brick on stone plinth with raised brick
quoins, brick dentil cornice with stepped 2-brick string below;
tile roof with verges and kneelers with glazed brick coping
sections, tall brick end stacks. Single front range of 2 storeys
and attic with small single storey rear wings. Three windows,
renewed wood 2-light mullion and transoms with glazing bars, and
splayed rubbed brick voussoirs with stone keystone. Voussoirs and
dentils in contrasting red brick. Two similar flanking central
door of 6 fielded panels with C20 flat moulded wooden hood on
consoles. Three gabled dormers with renewed 2-light wood
mullions. Stable block to left in brick with pantile roof and
similar coped verges and kneelers to house. Small single range.
Decorative elevation to Church End House has 2 round-arched
recesses with redder brick voussoirs and stone keystone and
imposts, and similar open arch in wall linking it to house.
Functional elevation on opposing side. Included for group value.
