5/162 Two Holder Monuments, about 6m south
east of south porch in churchyard
of Church of St James
GV II
Two chest tombs. To south, Samuel Holder (senior) 1732; to north,
Samuel Holder (junior) 1746. Limestone. Flat tops, cyma-moulded
plinths and cappings, on bases, lyre ends. Holder Sr has
rectangular moulded side panel to south, cartouche to north side,
both with inscriptions, and elaborately carved lyre ends with
cherubs' heads, hourglass and other devices. Holder Jr tomb is
similar, but in reverse. Both substantially eroded at east end at
time of survey (December 1985).
