15/4 Ferris Court Farmhouse
Farmhouse. Barn attached at north west corner (q.v.). Late C16.
Random rubble limestone; ashlar chimney; stone slate roof -
missing at time of survey (June 1986). Two-storey; long range
with central cross-passage. East side: central doorway with
chamfered opening and plank door. Single-light opening to left and
2 to right indicating staircase, all recessed chamfered with
hoodmoulds. Three-light casement to each floor at either end of
elevation; further upper floor 3-light above and left of doorway.
Single-light openings have central iron bar; other casements
missing, those at right end now blocked. North and south ends:
parapet gabled, north retaining chimney with moulded cap. (Similar
chimney to south end now missing.) Two single-light openings with
hoodmould to each end; 2-light with hoodmould to attic at north
end only. Former attached outbuilding at south end now demolished.
West side: mixed fenestration. Central doorway with timber
lintel. Three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement with
hoodmould to each floor left of doorway; further 2-light to left.
Two 2-light upper floor casements to right. Altered window and
door opening to right. All casement fittings missing as on east
Interior: stone spiral staircase in south gable end. Mid position
stair on east side in former spiral staircase position. Plain
chamfered opening to central stone fireplace. Most internal
timberwork destroyed after removal of roof. Said to be part of
ancient manor house. Building in state of decay at time of survey
