13/70 Barn at Tythe Barn Gardens


Barn with attached former shelter shed. Early C19. Coursed and
squared rubble limestone; stone slate roofs. Seven-bay barn with
lofted porch and outshuts on west side; porch on east side. Off-
centre parapet gabled west porch with ball finial. Segmental
arched doorway with keystone; keyed circular loft window above.
Outshuts have catslide roofs, front walls being flush with porch.
Keyed round arched doorway to each, left having 2 square-headed
windows, single to right. Ball finial to parapet gable ends of
barn. Slit vents and keyed round arched loft openings, now glazed.
Round arched loft doorway to north end of outshut, formerly with
granary stair, now removed. Small circular owl hole to each gable
apex. Parapet gabled east porch with timber lintel to doorway;
oval loft opening above. Interior: 7-bay king post truss roof
dates from rebuilding following fire. A barn of high architectural
quality. Forms part of group with shelter sheds (q.v.).
