7/128 Hillhouse Farmhouse

II

Detached farmhouse. C17; extensively rebuilt late C18 and early
C19 by Thomas Baker. Random rubble limestone; brick chimneys;
concrete plain tile roof. Two-storey with attic; L-plan. South
front: 3-window fenestration, all 12-pane sashes with plain timber
architraves having an applied timber-moulding bar. Central doorway
with double 3-panel doors and rectangular light over with glazing
bars. Off-centre gabled roof dormer with small-paned casement.
East end: projecting verge to gable; single 12-pane sash to
ground and upper floor, 6-pane to attic. Rear: part with catslide
roof to single-storey outshut; part with low-pitch lean-to roof
and doorway with 6-panel door and flat stone porch hood on
attenuated tapering stone pillars. Wing has 2-window east facing
fenestration, casements to ground floor, 12-pane sashes above.
West side: scattered mixed fenestration, mostly casements with
timber lintels. Interior not inspected. Barn in farmyard 30m west
of house (q.v.).
