II

Detached house. Partly C17, built into large mid C18 house;
c1830 remodelling; mid Cl9 additions. Coursed and random rubble
limestone; concrete block chimneys; stone slate roof. Three-
storey, rear wing built against rock-face. Front: 2-window
fenestration, 2-storey c1830 canted bay windows with 12-pane front
and 8-pane side sashes. Later Cl9 upper floor added above moulded
string course has two 6-pane sashes. Part of elevation to right
in random rubble is part of C17 cottage, incorporated into house.
Shortened gable end chimneys. West side: no windows in main
gable end. Two-window segmental arched timber fenestration to
wing with iron opening casements. Doorway with 6-panel moulded
door and segmental cobweb fanlight. Attic level access doorway
at rear of wing. Interior: mostly remodelled c1830, many
doorways having Regency architraves with thin cornices and 6-panel
moulded doors. Contemporary stick-balustered staircase with
scrolled landing fascia. Ground floor of small cottage
incorporated into cellar. Wing possibly C17, kitchen having large
stone arched fireplace with bread oven.
