SO 8802-8902 CHALFORD OLD NEIGHBOURHOOD
(off east side)

13/89 Millswood

GV II

Formerly mill, now detached house. Late C18, possibly earlier in
part. Coursed rubble limestone; ashlar chimneys; stone slate and
concrete tile roof. Two-storey with attic; lean-to outshut to
rear. Front: in 2 builds of similar dates. Left part has
scattered timber mullioned windows with leaded iron casements to
upper floor, ground floor restored with mullioned casements. Plain
flush ashlar band above windows. Scattered leaded casements to
right part. Doorway with plank and cover-strip door and lean-to
porch hood. Four flush rooflights. Three ridge-mounted chimneys
with chamfered caps. Lower part to south end has ashlar elevation
and leaded casements. Rear: lean-to outshut with very tall brick
chimney. Towards south end gabled loft doorway with double plank
doors. Interior not inspected but could be of interest. Screen
wall at south end has pointed arched doorway and links with coach
house (q.v.).
