Detached house. c1860 by Benjamin Bucknall. Coursed and dressed
limestone; ashlar and rendered brick chimneys; concrete tile
roof. Two-storey; rectangular. South east front: asymmetrical
with roughly central doorway having hoodmould grouping with 2-light
chamfered mullioned casement to right; doorway obscured by timber
lean-to porch addition. Ground floor single-light casement to
left with 2-light immediately below eaves. Shaped stone gutter
brackets; original stone gutters and downpipes removed and
replaced by standard C20 fittings. Central ridge-mounted chimney
with cluster of 4 shafts, some C20 rebuilt. Parapet gabled ends:
north east with central buttress, ground floor 2-light either side
and C20 replaced 4-light above with relieving arch; quatrefoil
gable vent. More alterations to south west end, 2 single-light
ground floor casements, with C20 metal casement in rendered gable;
quatrefoil gable vent. Rear: off-centre parapet gable with 2-
light casements; segmental arched doorway below, hoodmould
grouping with 2-light to right. Interior not inspected. Similar
in design to Scar Hill (q.v.) but without the gabled stair wing.
Like Bucknall's other Nympsfield buildings, this was built for
William Leigh to provide accommodation for the recently founded
Catholic community.
