2/18 Gate piers, gates and
garden walls at
Tocknell's Court
GV
II
Two pairs of gate piers with gates and garden walls. Probably C18. Large
dressed square limestone blocks set on rubble base courses, wrought iron gates.
A quadrangle of walls with saddle-back copings, on the river front of the house,
retaining a terrace. The river gate is approached by a straight flight of
10 stone steps to two square gate piers with rich moulded chippings carrying
each a splendid stone heraldic lion; a wrought iron gate with arched head in
side panels and with overthrow. In walls on north side a similar pair of piers,
centrally, with ball finials, and wrought iron gate. Small gate on west side
gives access to entrance front of the house.
