Barn and attached cow byre. C19. Squared and coursed limestone, stone slate
front slope and concrete slate back slope roof. Long barn with deep opposed
cart entries; attached left and back a 2-storey cart shed with loft and linked,
right, a single storey cow byre. Barn has coped gables with cross-roll saddles,
roof swept down to later lean-to's on south. Large porch opening to concrete
lintel under 2-light C19 casement and pigeon opening to gable; a door and an
opening to lean-to each side. Far side has 3 over 3 ventilation slits left of
deep porch and 1 over 1 to right part concealed by cart shed. Barn west gable
has C14 flamboyant tracery in 2 lights, a square loading door and 2 over 1 slits
plus a square opening. Interior in 8 bays; queen post, 2-purlin roof, loft
floors to porch and inserted floor to west end beyond concrete threshing floor.
All slits to deep internal splayed embrasures. Cart shed has gable to north
with timber lintel over open ground floor which is divided by continuous spine
wall. Towards the barn a flight of stone steps to the loft door, and a similar
door on opposite side. Cow byre returns right, opposite farmhouse (q.v.) in 9
open bays, divided by square tapered stone pillars to wood spreader caps. Roof
of heavy slightly cambered tie beams; continuous stone feeder trough, concrete
floor. Attached to east gable of barn by a short return wing. Part of striking
farm group; damaged by fire early 1987 but integrity of building remains.
