FAR END (south side)
School Cottage

II
Detached cottage. C18 and C19. Squared rubble, stone slate roof. Lies across slope, gable to road: at the upper end a large window to what may have been a schoolroom. To road a two-light casement to gable. Facing west, to right, a full-height gable off-centre, right. Two storeys and attic with large three-light transomed casement to hood-mould, then a plank door in chamfer surround with deep lintel and a two-light casement under a common stepped hood; at first floor two two-light with hoods, and in gable one one-light. All casements recessed chamfer stone mullion. Gable stack at lower end, here also small lean-to. Back has two-light casement at eaves. Continuous lean-to with stack along back not of special interest.
