8/285 Clevelands
Large dwelling, in two builds, on street corner and adjoining churchyard. C17
and late C18 or early C19. Earlier section is limestone rubble with stone slate
to Victoria Street, and concrete tile on inner slope; later unit limestone
ashlar front, dressed stone return, slate roof. A broad two storeys with attic
frontage with plain first floor string adjoins a later two storey gable to
street unit at the street corner. Later building is 3+1 windows, all 12-pane
sashes in plain reveals and to sill band or stone sills, under three C20 steel
casement gabled dormers. In bay 2 a 6-panel part glazed door under a flat
wooden hood on wrought iron brackets. Cellar opening, left, with grille to
pavement. The early building has a 2-light hollow chamfer mullion casement in a
stopped hood over a 12-pane sash. Return front to Victoria Street includes a
gabled section with a 2-light glazing bar casement over 12-pane sashes at first
and ground floors; also a 2-light hollow chamfer mullion casement and two
further 2-light windows.
