Detached house. Late C17 or early C18. Limestone ashlar, very steeply
pitched hipped roof with stone slate, over wood modillion cornice, large
ashlar and brick stack with moulded capping and skirt on left, with saddle-
back to main roof slope. A compact plan with a cross-passage (now blocked);
levels within have been modified in late C20 to cope with flooding from
adjacent stream. Elevation to road 2 storeys and attic, small hipped dormer
with sash, 2-light transomed hollow chamfer mullioned, flush surround at
first floor over 16-pane C19 sash with broad surround; lean-to extension,
left. Main entrance front, right, 2 storeys and attic 4-windowed, single
hipped dormer with sash over cross mullioned 2-light casements as street
front, but one window blocked, over large sash with glazing bars, left,
doorway, now blocked, with plain elliptical oculus over, and two 2-light
cross-mullioned casements. On south wall ground floor includes 3-light
mullion and transome casement to same detail. Entrance now by C20 door
on east front, but at original outer wall, adjacent to stack, is doorway
with 4-centred moulded head, no door. Interior: two 'Tudor' fireplaces,
possibly of C17, raised and curtailed, in modifications, various stepped
chamfer beams. No original staircase. See also photograph in NMR.
