Well House

- II

Detached house. C17. Squared and coursed limestone, stone slate roof to
coped gables, stack at left. Two storeys and attic, 2-windowed, 2-light
chamfered mullion casements with horizontal bars, small 2-light casement
gabled dormers, central C19 panelled door in C19 porch with timber checks
and stone slate roof, with heavy saddle stone and ball finial. In gable,
left, one small 6-pane casement at ground floor. C20 extensions at back.
Interior not seen. Name derives from well immediately in front of entrance
to cottage, which has a large single stone drum c 1.3 m diameter and
700 mm deep as part of the well-head structure.
