School house and dwelling, now two dwellings. C17 with major C20 additions
and C19 modifications. Coursed and squared limestone, concrete stone slates.
A rambling composition with various gables and dormers, street front is
two gabled, of which right half is old and left is C20, older gable 2-light
over 3-light hollow chamfer mullion casements with stopped drips; return
wall, right includes external eaves stack to right of door to Willow Cottage
and 2½ storey gable to Upper School Cottage including single light opening
to roof space and 2-light reserve chamfer mullion casements at ground and
first floor; late C20 door and gabled porch. On east front corresponding
gable has single light in gable over 2-light reserve chamfer mullioned case-
ment under stopped drip at first floor and C20 steel casement at ground
floor. Also to this front, right of 3-storey gable is very wide early plank
door. Interior of Upper School Cottage has deep chamfered beams, one timber
framed partition with wattle and daub, fireplace with chamfered bressumer
to good stone cheeks, and roof light in east gable with early internal
shutter. Although much modified, this property still has architectural
and historic interest.
