Large detached house lying across the boundary of Prestbury C.P.
and Cheltenham Borough. Main body early-mid c18 with a earlier
(probably C18) house at rear. Ashlar facade, otherwise coursed
squared and dressed limestone. Concrete tile roof. Basically
rectangular main body with the earlier house incorporated into the
rear left-hand corner. C19 part-glazed porch at centre of entrance
front, not of special interest. Two and 3 storeys with cellar.
Flat-chamfered plinth to main body. Symmetrical 2:2:1:2:2-windowed
facade. Central block 3 storeys with a triangular pediment; 2-
windowed, 2-storey subsidiary wings either side. Former sash
windows now largely replaced by C20 metal casements. Four
(Probably C20) 12-pane sashes to ground floor. All windows within
architraves with roll-moulded outer margin. Flat- chamfered quoins
either side of central bay. Cellar under central block lit by two
2-light stone-mullioned casements (one now blocked). Flat-
chamfered quoins at corner of 2-storey wings which have a band over
the first floor windows and a ramped parapet. Five stone steps up
to landing and central fielded 6-panel door with small oval lights
in upper panels, within a lugged architrave with a moulded stone
hood supported on console brackets. C20 steel casements in
original window openings in right-hand return. C20 glazed french
doors inserted in place of one window. Left-hand return, possibly
representing remnants of earlier. Fenestration includes large 2
and 3-light stone-mullioned casements a 15-pane sash with wide
glazing bars. Interior reputed to be good but not accessible, main
body contains a good C18 or early C19 open-well staircase with
wreathed handrail on highly decorated turned and carved balusters.
History; sold to the Agg family by the Baghott family 1797.
