gate piers to Shuthonger House

GV II

Wall, gates and gate piers. C19. Brick; walls. Piers; probably
rendered brick. Gates; wrought-iron. The wall forms a curving
boundary c55m in length with gate piers at either end. The wall
contains 3 sets of matching gate piers (2 carriage width, one
single). Wall cl.5m in height with a moulded grey brick capping.
The wall is ramped up towards the gate piers. The piers have
sunken panelled decoration to each side and moulded cappings with
ball finials. Both the main entrances have double spear-headed
wrought-iron gates which curve down towards the centre and have
ornate wrought-ironwork at the base. The piers flanking the single
width entrance are of a similar but simpler design to those
flanking the main entrances.
