Lodge gateway. 1886 by J.D. Wyatt for Mrs Dent. Ashlar walls,
flat roof (presumed lead). Three-storey gatehouse, flanked quarter
octagonal wing walls. Viewed from road: wrought-iron double gates
in stone archway, moulded arris, 4-centred arch. Either side
plinth, 2-light mullion and transom windows, outer corners of
gatehouse chamfered. String course above, stepping up over central
gateway. Above, 4-light mullion and transom window in oriel over
gate, 2-light similar each side, with single-light in chamfer.
String course above, stepping up over further single-light
transomed window in sides. Crenellated parapet at centre,
abutting, higher wings, string course and crenellated parapet. To
each side of gatehouse a wrought-iron pedestrian door under 4-
centred arch; coped wall to octagonal corner pier, with plinth and
pyramid cap. Coped wall at angle for about 5m, top stepping down,
further pier, about 4m wall to pier by road, all piers similar in
design.
