Formerly known as Seven Springs House, now a school. Built in 1840
by William Hall. Red brick now painted; squared and dressed
limestone quoins; slate roof with painted brick stacks.
Rectangular plan, once with more extensive-services to rear now
demolished. Two storeys and attic. Symmetrical 4-windowed facade
with shaped gables projecting forwards to left and right; 4-light
stone-built canted bays to the ground floor of the gables; tall 3-
light stone-mullioned casements contain 2-pane sashes between the
two gables; tall 2-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped
hoods and steel casements to the first floor; the shaped gables
are lit by small 2-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped
hoods containing small 2-pane sashes; two 2-light stone-built
gabled eaves dormers with moulded kneelers and decorative roundels
to each gable between the gables. Flat-roofed conservatory
entrance lit by tall stone-mullioned windows to the right with a
C19 four-panelled door within a round-headed surround with a hood
towards the rear. Dutch gable lit by stone-mullioned casements
projects forwards to the right. Axial stacks. Roll-moulded
capping and ball finials to gables.
Interior: some interior room divisions altered; one classical
style and one mannerist fireplace. Balusters of staircase
replaced C20. This building occupies a particularly prominent
position at the top of a hill.
