II
Former poorhouse, then 4 cottages, now one house. Mid C17 with
later extension. Limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins;
stone slate to the east facing roof pitch, slate at rear; stumps
of two ashlar stacks both heightened in brick; one rendered stack.
Rectangular plan with the gable end to the road; lean-to extension
to the rear. Two storeys with 1½ storey lean-to at the rear.
Three 2-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casements with
horizontal glazing bars and traces of red colour wash to the ground
floor; 2-light fixed casements with horizontal glazing bars and
dressed stone surrounds infilling former doorways. Two 4-light
wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars to the first floor.
Central C20 plank door with a C20 timber lintel within a C20 rubble
porch. Three plank doors with early hinges and thumb latches. The
far left-hand doorway is within an open-sided C20 porch; small
reused trefoil-headed stone window to the right of the porch;
three 2-light casements to the ground and first floors. Gable-end
and axial stacks. Interior not inspected but contains an open
fireplace with bressumer. The house derives its name from the fact
that it was bought by John Booker when the Coberley estate was sold
in 1720.
