Former farmhouse. Possibly C16, mostly C17, extended C19 in two
phases. Early range limestone rubble; C19 extension coursed
squared and dressed limestone with dressed stone quoins; stone
slate and artificial slate roof with ashlar stacks. The early
range was probably originally 'L'-shaped in plan but was partially
rebuilt and extended in the C19 on the east side. Two storeys with
cellar and attic. The south facing wall of the early range: two
buttresses and a projecting stack; C20 wooden casements with
concrete lintels to the ground floor; mid-late C19 metal casements
with small glazed panes to the upper floor; two roof dormers.
North front, with early range projecting forwards right: C20 two-
light wooden casement with glazing bars and a concrete lintel to
the ground floor, smaller 2-light wooden casement above; single
16-pane sash within a dressed stone surround to the left of a C20
lean-to porch; concealing fielded double doors with a 3-pane hall
light above; two similar 16-pane sashes to the first floor. Twin
gables facing the road with 16-pane sashes; 2-light stone-
mullioned window to the cellar under the right-hand gable wall.
East front: large 3-light window with horizontal glazing bars to
the right of a plank stable-type doorway within an articifial stone
surround; two C19 casements with small panes and one C20 casement
with glazing bars to the upper floor. Gable-end and axial stacks,
two with moulded cappings.
Interior: beams with deep flat chamfers. Part of the main
downstairs room has intersecting beams and an early segmental-
headed fireplace with imposts; large 4-centred arched fireplace
with carved spandrels containing small square stone plaques in the
same room, both fireplaces have been mutilated prior to being
walled in. Bread oven with a segmental-headed brick opening to the
right of the larger fireplace. Blocked opening with a flat-
chamfered surround to the left of the fireplace, possibly
containing a small spiral staircase. Large open fireplace with a
flat-chamfered surround in another room. Upstairs room with narrow
intersecting beams. Barrel-vaulted cellar.
